And just like that she had stopped pouring water into the soap bottle to make up for what's left. She stopped cutting the toothpaste in half to terrorize the remaining left.
She irritated him. This new found freedom she had to be careless with her old habits, toss them aside like they were not a part of who she was. She adjusted way too quickly. She irritated him and if he would be honest, that was the day he understood the dynamics of their relationship. She could easily leave. Forget about him like he had never been a part of her life.
'Ayele,' he says looking at the toothpaste tube she had just tossed into the bin. 'You know, you used to cut these two,'
She laughs. 'I really did. Thank God we don't have live that way anymore,' she says and continues fixing her hair.
'But-what was wrong with the way we lived,' he says hesitantly. 'The toothpaste is still in there. Whether we have or not, we should still finish it up. Why would you just give up on it? It's something you used to do. Why would you change?'
'Really? We could buy the entire toothpaste factory if we wanted,' she says staring at him piercingly.
He forces a smile. 'Yeah you're right. Everything is replaceable,'
